Introduction to Battleship
Battleships is actually a board game. However, it can be played on paper too. It is quite a thrilling and exciting paper-and-pencil strategy-type guessing game for 2 players. It is played on 10 x 10 ruled grids.
Rules in Battleship
Your goal is to hit down all your opponent's ships which are placed on different locations of grids.
The player who first destroys all the opponent's ships wins the game.
You will have to draw two 10 x 10 grids of squares on paper. One of the squares of 10 x 10 grids is to place your own ships while another is to guess the guess and hit the opponent's ships in an unknown location.
Types of ships
There will be 5 types of ships to be placed:
- Carrier (5 grids)
- Battleship (4 grids)
- Cruiser (3 grids)
- Submarine (3 grids)
- Destroyer (2 grids)
Placement of Ships
You cannot place your ships diagonally. You can only place them horizontally or vertically.
You cannot overlap 2 or more ships together. Your ships can touch each other.
You cannot split your ships into 2 or more parts.
You cannot bend your ships.
How to Draw Ships
You can either shade your ships on the grids or outline your ships on the grids to represent your ships.
Types of symbols
There will be 2 types of symbols placed on the grids:
- "O" stands for Miss
- "X" stands for Hit
How to play the game
After getting all the ships being placed and set up, the game can be started.
For each turn, the player has to try to hit the opponent's ships. The player has to say out what coordinate of grids he or she guesses to hit the opponent's ships.
After that, the opponent has to check if his or her ship was hit.
If hits, the opponent has to let the player know by saying "Hits", else just say "Misses".
Then both players will have to mark down the symbol "O" or "X" on their own grids.
If the ship is destroyed, the player has to let the opponent know by saying "The ship is sunk".
This game process is repeated until one of the player has all ships being destroyed by the opponent.
